If you think that it will be a long time before you need more storage, then there are some other things to consider. First of all, a hard drive slows down as more and more of its max capacity is reached. Buying external Mac storage equipment may suit your needs, but that can be even more expensive and much more cumbersome than finding a good deal from the start. Also, external storage usually isn’t as safe as internal, because anyone can access the information placed on it when you’re not around, and there are methods to copy such devices.

If you’re thinking about getting more Mac storage, then it’s a good idea to know that bigger isn’t always better. There are different types of Mac storage, the best being solid state drives. Solid state drives are available for PCs as well, and can perform twice as well as standard hard drives. This will reduce the amount of upgrades you will have to perform on your Mac over time, and will also greatly increase its resale value.

Solid state drives are also much more durable, as there are no moving parts used in their construction.

Again you can always purchase a solid state external drive, but the same problems apply as with the regular external drives, not to mention they have the potential to be stolen. Check the price of any Mac you’re thinking about buying, and check the hard drive specifications, as well as how much it would cost to change them. This will also give you an idea of how much upgrading your hard drive will cost in the future.
